Barcelona

Look up at a remarkable façade, then spend the afternoon doing something entirely different by the sea. Barcelona suits travellers who want culture without giving every hour to a museum or monument. Alongside the famous buildings, make room for Sant Pau’s garden setting: another expression of a city that makes architecture part of the holiday.

Beyond the familiar façades

Why put Barcelona on your list?

  • Eixample is a natural focus for an architecture-led day.
  • The historic centre offers a different scale and street pattern to explore.
  • A waterfront pause can soften an otherwise busy cultural itinerary.

Step into Sant Pau’s garden city

Designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner, Sant Pau’s former hospital complex brings Art Nouveau pavilions into a garden setting. It offers another way to understand Barcelona’s architectural imagination, beyond its most familiar silhouettes. Make it the anchor of a cultural day, checking the current visitor route and admission directly before arranging your visit.

Where to stay

Eixample · Consider this district for an architecture-led city break.

Historic centre · A base for exploring older streets and neighbourhood life.

A little room for discovery

Three days to make your own

Use these as a starting point for part of your stay. Each visit and journey is something to arrange independently.

  1. Day 1

Begin with a neighbourhood walk and a relaxed lunch. Notice the streets and buildings around your base before crossing the city.

  2. Day 2

Choose one architectural interior or major sight as the day's anchor. Arrange any required timed entry directly and leave a comfortable gap afterwards.

  3. Day 3

Spend time by the waterfront, then return to a neighbourhood you want to know better. Avoid a last-minute dash between distant sights.

Getting around

Group visits by area and use the current public transport planner for longer journeys. A city-centre address is not automatically close to every major attraction; check each route before making reservations.

Before you choose your dates

Popular sights may need advance arrangements. Confirm opening times and ticket conditions with the attraction itself, and keep some time unreserved for the city outside its landmarks.
